CHE 458 Process Safety Engineering

This course covers the critical elements of Chemical Process Safety and Loss Prevention, providing a solid introductory framework for the principles of process safety engineering. It goes beyond the scope of Personnel Safety and Industrial Hygiene by concentrating on the assessment and management of potential dangers associated with the apparatus and methodologies employed in the Chemical Process Industries. Participants will engage with engineering principles tailored to process safety, including hazard analysis, mitigation, and proactive prevention measures, all with a focus on applications within the chemical sector. The curriculum encompasses a range of topics such as source modeling for leak scenarios, analysis of dispersion, sizing of relief systems, as well as evaluation of fire and explosion consequences. Additionally, it covers systematic approaches to hazards identification, risk assessment, investigation of industrial incidents, and the development of strategies to anticipate, control, or diminish these risks.
